2Unter dem Archon Heliodoros; die Kekropis hatte die elfte
3Prytanie inne; im Thargelion; Lysistratos S.d. Phylarchi-
4des aus dem Demos Oinoë stellte den Antrag: Da Eumaridas schon früher,
5damals nämlich, als es geschah, dass Boukris bei Raubzügen durch das
6Land zahlreiche von unseren Bürgern nach Kreta verschleppte und
7auch von den sonstigen Leuten aus der Stadt, viele und große Dienste
8dem Volk erwiesen und Geld vorgestreckt hat aus
9seinem Privatvermögen zu den zwanzig Talenten, die vereinbart waren für
10die Gefangenen; er ferner auch (Geld) geliehen hat den Gefangenen für die Reisekosten,
11und jetzt, als das Volk Gesandte schickte an alle Kreter,
12damit die Privilegien gültig bleiben und damit,
13falls irgendwo den einlaufenden Seefahrern der Beuteverkauf gestattet ist, dies
14aufgehoben werde, er überzeugend dafür sprach, dass in allem das Interesse des Volkes
15realisiert werde; er auch teilgenommen hat an der Gesandtschaft nach Knossos und seinen Bundes-
16genossen, den Gesandten auch Briefe nach Polyrhen mitgegeben
17hat an seine Freunde, damit diese mit ihnen gemeinsam verhandeln
18für die Interessen (des Volkes); er es auf sich nahm, seinie ganze Fürsorge
19einzusetzen für die Erhaltung der Privilegien des Volkes
20bei allen, die in Kreta wohnen; – Damit nun auch das Volk
21in öffentlicher Weise diejenigen ehrt, die die Gesinnung, die sie haben,
22zu jedem Zeitpunkt beweisen, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen das Volk:
23dass man belobige Eumaridas S.d. Pankles aus Kydonia und ihn be-
24kränze mit goldenem Kranz gemäß dem Gesetz wegen seines Wohlwollens
25und seines Ehrgeizes für den Rat und das Volk der
26Athener; dass man auch sein Standbild aus Bronze aufstelle auf der Akropolis;
27dass man ihn auch, wenn er in Zukunft Dienste erweist,
28ehren werde entsprechend seinen Wohltaten; dass der
29Sekretär des Volkes diesen Beschluss auf eine steinerne Stele
30aufzeichne und sie aufstelle neben dem Standbild; dass die entstandenen Kosten
31für die Weihung des Standbildes und der Stele der
32Schatzmeister der Militärkasse und die Finanzverwalter begleichen.

33Unter (dem Archon) Archelaos; im Schaltmonat Anthesterion; Dionysios S.d. Theo-
34philos aus dem Demos Elaious stellte den Antrag: Da wegen des Wohlwollens, das
35Eumaridas aus Kydonia stets hegt für das Volk, schon früher
36das Volk beschlossen hat, sein Standbild aus Bronze zu weihen; und nun Euryklei-
37des und Mikion die Dienste darlegen, die er erweist,
38und ersuchen, dass bewilligt werde die Weihung in dem Heiligtum des
39Volkes und der Chariten, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen das Volk:
40dass man Eumaridas gewähre die Weihung des Standbildes, das früher
41das Volk beschlossen hat, in dem Heiligtum des Demos und der Chariten,
42so wie es für ihn Eurykleides und Mikion erbitten; dass auch die
43übrigen für ihn beschlossenen Ehren gültig sein sollen.

50Prytanie inne; im Boëdromion; Nikias S.d. Polyxenos aus dem Demos Poros stellte den Antrag:
51Da Charmion, Sohn des Eumaridas aus Kydonia, der proxenos
52und Wohltäter ist, in der Absicht, sich den seinem Vater verliehenen
53Ehrungen würdig zu erweisen, zu Schiff in den Piräus
54kam, nachdem er als Festgesandter vom Volk nach Delphi geschickt worden war,
55und als die Generäle ihn (vor den Rat) einführten, er dem Rat
56aufzählte das väterliche Wohlwollen und das, was von ihm in die Tat umgesetzt
57worden ist, und für die Zukunft ankündigte, nützlich zu sein
58speziell und allgemein denjenigen Athenern, die nach Kreta kommen; –
59Damit nun zu jedem Zeitpunkt die Privilegien für verdiente Menschen
60realisiert werden, jetzt wie auch schon früher, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen
61der Rat: dass die erlosten Vorsitzenden für die kommende Volks-
62versammlung hierüber verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlage des
63Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es für gut befindet, dass die
64Strategen Gastgeschenke schicken an Charmion S.d. Eumaridas und seinen
65eingetroffenen Mitgesandten seinen Sohn Eumaridas;
66dass der Schatzmeister der Militärkasse die entstehenden Kosten
67begleiche gemäß der Liste; dass ihm auch die väterliche
68Proxenie sein solle und seinen Nachkommen; dass er, wenn er auch in Zukunft
69den Erweis derselben Gesinnung erbringt, Auszeichnung finden wird

11and now when the People has despatched ambassadors, so that
12privileges should remain in place for all Cretans, and in order that,
13if anywhere booty-rights have been granted to those who descend (scil. on Attica) by sea, this
14shall be abrogated, (Eumaridas) counselled that everything should be done in the interests
15of the People, and joined in the embassy to Knossos and the allies,
16and gave letters to the ambassadors to
17Polyrena, to friends there, that they might collaborate with them
18concerning our common interests, and took it upon himself to
19make every effort that the privileges granted by the People
20should remain for all those living in Crete; in order therefore that the
21People may be seen to be honouring those who demonstrate their preference
22at every opportunity, for good fortune, the People shall decide,
23to praise Eumaridas son of Pankles of Kydonia and crown
24him with a gold crown according to the law, for his good will
25and love of honour towards the Athenian Council and People,
26and to stand a bronze statue of him on the acropolis;
27and on his rendering service in the future, it shall be possible for him
28to be honoured worthily of his benefaction; and the secretary of the People
29shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele,
30and stand it next to the statue; and the treasurer
31of the miltary fund and the board of administrators shall allocate
32the expenditure accrued for the erection of the statue and the stele.

33In the (archonship) of Archelaos. Intercalary Anthesterion. Dionysios son of Theophilos
34of Elaious proposed: since on account of the good will which
35Eumaridas of Kydonia continues to have towards the People, the People
36previously voted to erect a statue of him, and now Eurykleides
37and Mikion, drawing attention to the services he has rendered,
38think it right that he be granted the erection in the precinct of the
39People and the Graces, for good fortune, the People shall decide,
40that Eumaridas be granted the erection of the statue, which the People
41voted for him previously, in the precinct of the People and the Graces,
42as Eurykleides and Mikion request for him; and the
43rest of the honours voted for him shall be valid.

49In the archonship of Phanarchides, in the third prytany,
50of Pandionis. Boedromion. Nikias son of Polyxenos of Poros proposed:
51since Charmion, being the son of Eumaridas of Kydonia, who was proxenos
52and benefactor, showing himself worthy
53of the honours granted to his father, having sailed into
54the Piraeus, was sent to Delphi as official visitor by the citizens,
55the generals having put him forward, and has given an account
56to the Council of his ancestral good will and of what he had accomplished,
57and announces that he will be useful in the future
58to those Athenians present in Crete, both individually and collectively;
59in order therefore that privileges may be awarded at every opportunity to those who are worthy
60now, just as previously, for good fortune, the Council
61shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted for the forthcoming
62Assembly shall put these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion
63of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council, that the generals
64should despatch gifts of hospitality to Charmion son of Eumaridas, and to
65those who are members of the official delegation with him, and to his son, Eumaridas;
66and the treasurer of the military fund shall allocate the expenditure accrued
67in accordance with the usual arrangements; and he shall have his ancestral
68proxeny, and his descendants; and it shall be possible for him, on his demonstrating in the future his
69own preference, to obtain benefits
70from the Council and the People, whatever he may appear to be worthy of.
